Bout Of Books 7.0

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team

I will be participating in the bout of books book-a-thon. This is the first book-a-thon I am doing in a really long time, so I am super-duper excited for it.

Time Devoted to Reading

Obsidian

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

My Review

Just imagine, you move to a new place with your family, meet a boy, and discover he's a alien. Yes an alien, turns out Katy's new neighbor family is not even from this universe, let alone being from this planet. Daemon and his sister Dee have to hide who they are from the rest of the world, but when Katy comes face to face with a truck which would crush her, Daemon has to freeze time to protect her, which leads to Katy figuring out who they truly are and has to be careful so that non of the others get to know that she knows about them. But how will she be able to protect herself from the ones out to get Daemon with a huge trace on her.

We don't see many alien based books out in the market these days so this one was something new. I enjoyed the small romance scenes between Daemon and Katy, it added a little twist to the action scenes which felt so realistic. I did feel that some parts of the book were pulled a little, which caused me to get bored in some of the scenes, other then that I found the book to be nicely detailed and well constructed. There was a little bit of everything in this book, romance, action, mystery, jealousy, school life, etc.

I had also lent this book to one of my friends and she got so hooked on it, she sat down to read and was awake till late night finishing the book. Overall this was an enjoyable book, and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what happens between Daemon and Katy.

My Review

What if one of your best friends dies and still haunt you everywhere you go? What if your past with them never leaves you alone? I scared and tortured feeling that you would get Aria, Hannah, Spencer and Emily are currently facing. After their friend Alison suddenly disappears, and after having gotten weird messages from someone who calls themselves A, these four girls are really about to get what they wouldn't have imagined in their wildest dreams.

For those of you who already watch this famous T.V show on ABC Family every Tuesday night. You might have already learned all the secrets, but there is a different enjoyment in watching the show and reading the book. As much as I love the show, and am upset that the 3rd season has ended, and we will have to wait till the 11th of June to watch what happens next, I just love the books. It gives me a chance to recollect what happened. And I found the book to be a bit more detailed then the actual show, which makes it interesting to read and find out more about the girls.

The books chapters are divided into each chapter being about either one of the girls, which makes it a joy to read the characters do intertwine with each other, but each chapter is mainly focused on one girl. The whole plot and the twists and turns of the book are very enjoyable, and to have to terrified feeling while reading the book is a different feeling all together. Even though this is not a horror book, It.Will.Scare.You, trust me.I am very excited to read the second book in this series and I just know it is going to be even better then this, because each book keeps on getting better and better as you read along.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.

There is.

She doesn't believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.

She’s wrong.

  My Review

Before the accident Mara Dyer was a normal girl, enjoying life with her friends, how would she know that all of that was about to turn around. Mara wakes up in a hospital having no recollection of what happened, but maybe it was better for her that way.

There is a saying that 'curiosity killed the cat', in this book that saying is portrayed wonderfully. This in my thought was one of the best books I have ever read if not the best. Michelle Hodkin's writing is so realistic but unbelievable- literally- in a way, that you start to imagine the future of the book and think that it is all a dream.

I don't really have many words for this book, because it is difficult to explain it without spoiling it. Overall I loved the book, and cannot wait to get my hands on the second book in the series.

Camp NaNoWriMo

Hi guys, so this is just a quick little post to talk a little about the upcoming Camp NaNoWriMo, which is being held in April and July 2013.

                                      Camp NaNoWriMo

Basically NaNoWriMo takes place every November, it is for aspiring writers who just need to little kick to get started in writing. The goal of it is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. You start writing on the 1st of Nov and end on 30th Nov at 12:00 am. If you were able to reach the goal before the time ends then you are a winner, or else you are a sore loser, just kidding there are so many more years ahead of us.

Now back to the camp. This year it is being held in April and July. It's kinda the same, only you get to choose you own word count from 10,000-999,999 words. There are no prizes involved in the camp but it is a great opportunity. You can choose you cabin buddies according to word counts goals, genres or just randomly. You can also download free camper badges, and but camp merchandise from the camp store online. The camp also needs donations, because that's how it works and we get NaNoWriMo.

This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo ever, I stumbled upon it when going through a Youtube vlog channel, Katytastic. I am looking forward to getting my ideas down on paper, and when going through many other vloggers on Youtube, I turned out to seem like a difficult task but at the end it is worth it.

NaNoWriMo isn't just for fun, you might even get published. So many writers today who have their books published once used NaNoWriMo to get to where they are today, ex. Stephanie Perkins  the author of the very famous and wonderful book Anna and the french kiss.

So if you are interested in writing, making the fiction and thoughts in your mind come out on paper, but need motivation Camp NaNoWriMo is the perfect thing for you.

                            Thank You guys for reading.
